Study Buddy is a free, AI-powered study tool for school students. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Study Buddy is designed to minimise data collection. We collect only the following:

• Study cards you create — questions, answers, subject, board, and class. These are stored entirely in your browser's local storage and never leave your device unless you use an AI feature.
• Progress data — XP, streaks, badges, quiz scores, and daily goals. Also stored locally in your browser only.
• AI requests — when you use the "Generate Answer", "Check Answer", or auto subject-detection features, your question (and optionally your answer) is sent to our serverless API, which forwards it to the Groq AI service to generate a response. We do not store your questions or answers on our servers.

2. How We Use Your Data

• Your study cards and progress stay in your browser and are used only to power the app's features on your device.
• AI requests are processed in real time and are not stored or logged on our servers. They are used solely to generate your answer, evaluation, or subject classification.
• We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or sale to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

• Groq AI — We use the Groq API to power AI features (answer generation, evaluation, subject detection). Your questions are sent to Groq for processing. Please refer to Groq's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.
• Google Fonts — We load fonts from Google's CDN. This may transmit your IP address to Google. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Cookies and Tracking

Study Buddy does not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics tools, or any other tracking technologies. All app data is stored in your browser's local storage, which is not accessible to us or any third party.

5. Data Storage and Security

• All study cards, progress, and preferences are stored in your browser's local storage.
• We do not maintain servers that store your personal data.
• AI requests are processed ephemerally and immediately discarded.

6. Children's Privacy

Study Buddy is designed for school students (ages 11–18). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is described above. Since all data stays in the user's browser and we do not collect account information, there is no personal data stored on our end.

7. Your Rights

• Access: All your data is in your browser's local storage. You can view it anytime through your browser's developer tools.
• Deletion: You can delete any card individually, or clear all data by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
• Export: Your data is stored as JSON in local storage and can be copied or exported using browser developer tools.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
